Hanukkah

Yeshua (Jesus) said what during Hanukkah?

שמח חג (Happy Holiday)! Did you know that Hanukkah (the festival of dedication) appears in the new testament of the Bible? And that Yeshua (Jesus) was in Jerusalem during Hanukkah? Yes, it’s true. The year 1611 version of the King James Bible recorded this event in Chapter John 10 (with reference to Verses 22 and 23) as follows:

22¶ And it was at Hierusalem the feast of the dedication, & it was winter.

23And Iesus walked in the temple in Solomons porch.

The Complete Jewish Version, gives the following translation:

22 Then came Hanukkah in Yerushalayim. It was winter,

23 and Yeshua was walking around inside the Temple area, in Shlomo’s Colonnade.

During the discussion between the Jewish Messiah, Yeshua and the Judeans, Yeshua said the following in Verses 27 to 30:

27 My sheep listen to my voice, I recognize them, they follow me, 28 and I give them eternal life. They will absolutely never be destroyed, and no one will snatch them from my hands. 29 My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no one can snatch them from the Father’s hands. 30 I and the Father are one.”

Yes, Yeshua and the Almighty Living God of Israel are one. This reconfirms the Shema Yisrael ( שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל) written in Deuteronomy 6 Verses 4 to 9:

(A:vi, S: v) Sh’ma, Yisra’elAdonai Eloheinu, Adonai echad [Hear, Isra’el! Adonai our God, Adonai is one]; and you are to love Adonai your God with all your heart, all your being and all your resources. These words, which I am ordering you today, are to be on your heart; and you are to teach them carefully to your children. You are to talk about them when you sit at home, when you are traveling on the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them on your hand as a sign, put them at the front of a headband around your forehead, and write them on the door-frames of your house and on your gates.

An Argument for Yeshua being born on Sukkot

Some believe that Yeshua Mashiach might have been born around the feast of tabernacles (Sukkot). Eric Aizenstros from the Beit HaMaschiach congregation presents the possible reason for this.

13 “You are to keep the festival of Sukkot for seven days after you have gathered the produce of your threshing-floor and winepress. 14 Rejoice at your festival – you, your sons and daughters, your male and female slaves, the L’vi’im, and the foreigners, orphans and widows living among you. 15 Seven days you are to keep the festival for ADONAI your God in the place ADONAI your God will choose, because ADONAI your God will bless you in all your crops and in all your work, so you are to be full of joy! 16 “Three times a year all your men are to appear in the presence of ADONAI your God in the place which he will choose – at the festival of matzah, at the festival of Shavu’ot and at the festival of Sukkot. They are not to show up before ADONAI empty-handed, 17 but every man is to give what he can, in accordance with the blessing ADONAI your God has given you.  Deuteronomy 16

33 ADONAI said to Moshe, 34 “Tell the people of Isra’el, ‘On the fifteenth day of this seventh month is the feast of Sukkot for seven days to ADONAI. 35 On the first day there is to be a holy convocation; do not do any kind of ordinary work. 36 For seven days you are to bring an offering made by fire to ADONAI; on the eighth day you are to have a holy convocation and bring an offering made by fire to ADONAI ; it is a day of public assembly; do not do any kind of ordinary work 37 “‘These are the designated times of ADONAI that you are to proclaim as holy convocations and bring an offering made by fire to ADONAI -a burnt offering, a grain offering, a sacrifice and drink offerings, each on its own day – 38 besides the Shabbats of ADONAI, your gifts, all your vows and all your voluntary offerings that you give to ADONAI 39 “‘But on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered the produce of the land, you are to observe the festival of ADONAI seven days; the first day is to be a complete rest and the eighth day is to be a complete rest. 40 On the first day you are to take choice fruit, palm fronds, thick branches and river-willows, and celebrate in the presence of ADONAI your God for seven days. 41 You are to observe it as a feast to ADONAI seven days in the year; it is a permanent regulation, generation after generation; keep it in the seventh month. 42 You are to live in sukkot for seven days; every citizen of Isra’el is to live in a sukkah, 43 so that generation after generation of you will know that I made the people of Isra’el live in sukkot when I brought them out of the land of Egypt; I am ADONAI your God.'” 44 Thus Moshe announced to the people of Isra’el the designated times of ADONAI. Shalom friends,

I hope you are doing well, under the circumstances of coronavirus, social distancing and self isolation measures imposed by various governments all over the planet. I saw a thought provoking video by Chaim Goldman where he discusses the 2 crowns of 2 Jewish Messiahs (Mashiach ben yosef / משיח בן־יוסף and Mashiach ben David / משיח בן דוד ) which we believe the roles Yeshua the Messiah has fulfilled as the suffering Servant (Isaiah Chapter 53) and will fulfill when he returns which I believe will be sooner rather than later, [and not because of the current pandemic].

May ADONAI, the God of Israel in the name of Yeshua / ישוע Mashiach continue to bless and protect you and your family during these times.
