Shabbat Shalom, friends!
I’ve recently read a blog post from Elihu’s Corner and I’d wanted to share it with you. I think it’s thought provoking and we should talk about it. You can access it here.
It deals with a very common expression that we hear on a daily basis. It is OM”G” which is the abbreviated version of “Oh my G**”. This expression “Oh my G**” isn’t new, it’s been used for decades by people and in the media (movies, TV shows etc). It is now just in an abbreviated form. This expression is so commonly used, it is probably used more than the expression “okay”. We get emojis, songs about it, even merchandise such as badges with this term imprinted on it. Young children are using it. We get variations of the original expression such as where the “Oh my” is dropped when it is used and the more “respectful” version of “Oh my gosh”. The worst part is that people don’t realise the enormous impact of this simple little expression. We have been so conditioned by deception.
Using this expression is a violation of Torah (God’s Instructions). Sh’mot / Exodus 20:7 clearly states that:
“You are not to use lightly the name of ADONAI your God, because ADONAI will not leave unpunished someone who uses his name lightly. “
When Yeshua haMashiach taught us how to pray in Mattityahu / Matthew 6: 9-13, He expressly mentioned that we should pray: “Our Father in heaven! May your Name be kept holy.“
Using both of these expressions are the opposite of keeping ADONAI’s name holy. Please read the blogpost from Elihu’s Corner as I think it’s awesome.
I refrain from using this expression myself and an interesting question is whether we should tell others what the true meaning behind these expressions are and that it’s taking ADONAI’s name in vain? Thus, sharing the truth. What do you think?
In conclusion, there is so much deception in this world. Let’s hold on to Biblical Truth and stand up for what we believe in.
I hope you and your family have a peaceful Shabbat!
They fell face down before the throne and worshipped God, saying,
“Praise and glory, wisdom and thanks, honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and ever!
I’m a whole bible believing feast keeping, sabbath following man!
