Anger

Shabbat Shalom, friends!

We never get angry, right? Yes? No? Well, that is for you to answer.  I reckon that we do get angry, at times, as it’s a challenging and difficult life in this world. It is not sunshine, roses, smiley faces and social media likes all the time; and life will get more challenging due to the actions of others who do not follow Torah (ADONAI’s instructions). Bible prophesy also confirms this (see for example 2 Timothy 3).

As we seek guidance from the Word of God, we find various verses on this topic throughout the Bible, however I was drawn to the message from Tehillim / Psalm 4 and 37 and Mishlei / Proverbs 16:32. (You could read these below.)

King David and later, his son Shlomo (Solomon), recorded these words thousands of years ago and when I read these verses, it is almost like a 4 step process to reduce anger:

Step 1: calm down.

Step 2: don’t be upset by evildoers.

Step 3: stop being angry; and.

Step 4: put your trust in ADONAI.

If you apply these steps, you will be better than a war hero!

I hope you and your family have a peaceful Shabbat!  The Aaronic Blessing for you and your family:

✡Yeshua haMashiach is the King of Israel ✡ the Bright Morning Star✡

Tehillim 4

1 For the leader. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David: O God, my vindicator! Answer me when I call! When I was distressed, you set me free; now have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

2 Men of rank, how long will you shame my honor, love what is vain, chase after lies? (Selah)

3 Understand that ADONAI sets apart the godly person for himself; ADONAI will hear when I call to him.

4 You can be angry, but do not sin! Think about this as you lie in bed, and calm down. (Selah)

5 Offer sacrifices rightly, and put your trust in ADONAI.

6 Many ask, “Who can show us some good?” ADONAI, lift the light of your face over us!

7 You have filled my heart with more joy than all their grain and new wine.

8 I will lie down and sleep in peace; for, ADONAI, you alone make me live securely.

Tehillim 37 1- 8

1 By David: Don’t be upset by evildoers or envious of those who do wrong,

2 for soon they will wither like grass and fade like the green in the fields.

3 Trust in ADONAI, and do good; settle in the land, and feed on faithfulness.

4 Then you will delight yourself in ADONAI, and he will give you your heart’s desire.

5 Commit your way to ADONAI; trust in him, and he will act.

6 He will make your vindication shine forth like light, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

7 Be still before ADONAI; wait patiently till he comes. Don’t be upset by those whose way succeeds because of their wicked plans.

8 Stop being angry, put aside rage, and don’t be upset – it leads to evil.

9 For evildoers will be cut off, but those hoping in ADONAI will inherit the land.

10 Soon the wicked will be no more; you will look for his place, and he won’t be there.

 Mishlei 16:32:

32 He who controls his temper is better than a war hero, he who rules his spirit better than he who captures a city.

Wednesday’s self-reflection post: Work

For Wednesday’s self reflection post, let’s reflect on our work life. We spend the majority of our time at work. We experience the ups and downs of daily life at the office. Some of us are doing what we love or doing what we must or a combination of both. However, we are blessed to be able to get up in the morning to go to work.

working.JPG

In Colossians 3:23-24 we receive encouragement from the Word of ADONAI:

23 Whatever work you do, put yourself into it, as those who are serving not merely other people, but the Lord.

24 Remember that as your reward, you will receive the inheritance from the Lord. You are slaving for the Lord, for the Messiah.

Also in Proverbs 25:19 we read that:

Relying on an untrustworthy person in a time of trouble is like [relying on] a broken tooth or an unsteady leg.

Let’s give it our all and our best.

I like this song called Modeh Ani (מודה אני) / “I give thanks” by Israeli singer Omer Adam:

Halleluyah!

This Shabbat

Pray with me

Shabbat Shalom, friends!

It’s another week closer to Yom Teruah (Rosh Hashanah) / The day of blowing the Shofar (Trumpets). The Shofar blowers are practicing and getting ready.

Have you been watched the main stream media lately? Well, you haven’t missed anything.  It’s still about wars, terror related incidents, hate, rumours of wars in various parts of the world; huge storms and earthquakes causing destruction and disrupting people’s lives. We also see and experience an increasing apostasy from faith and people distancing themselves from Torah (God’s instructions). It’s nothing new and we’ve probably becoming so conditioned to these that we don’t even think about it anymore. It’s just part of the normal anxiety we experience in our already busy lives. However, it seems that these are intensifying: more intense storms, more devastating earthquakes, wars (and rumours of wars likely to) starting in other regions of the world that have been peaceful for decades.  Luckily, we remember Yeshua’s words in Matthew / Mattityahu 24 where Yeshua said that all these things are just the “birth-pains”. You can read this chapter here.

Thus, we don’t need to be anxious as these things must happen and will intensify even more.

If you do feel anxious (and we all do – sometimes more than normal), we can find assurance in these words from the Prophets Isaiah and 2 Chronicles:

Isaiah / Yesha’yahu 43:

1 But now this is what ADONAI says, he who created you, Ya’akov, he who formed you, Isra’el: “Don’t be afraid, for I have redeemed you; I am calling you by your name; you are mine.

2 When you pass through water, I will be with you; when you pass through rivers, they will not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire, you will not be scorched – the flame will not burn you.

3 For I am ADONAI, your God, the Holy One of Isra’el, your Savior – I have given Egypt as your ransom, Ethiopia and S’va for you.

4 Because I regard you as valued and honored, and because I love you. For you I will give people, nations in exchange for your life.

5 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. I will bring your descendants from the east, and I will gather you from the west;

6 I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Don’t hold them back! Bring my sons from far away, and my daughters from the ends of the earth,

7 everyone who bears my name, whom I created for my glory – I formed him, yes, I made him.'”

8 Bring forward the people who are blind but have eyes, also the deaf who have ears.

9 All the nations are gathered together, and the peoples are assembled. Who among them can proclaim this and reveal what happened in the past? Let them bring their witnesses to justify themselves, so that others, on hearing, can say, “That’s true.”

10 “You are my witnesses,” says ADONAI, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you can know and trust me and understand that I am he no god was produced before me, nor will any be after me.

Also in 2 Chronicles / Divrei-Hayamim Bet 20: 20 we read this message:

“Trust in ADONAI your God, and you will be safe.

Trust in his prophets, and you will succeed.”

To conclude this shabbat blog post, I want to encourage you to pray with me:

ABA / FATHER, The Almighty Living God of Israel,

In the name of Yeshua Ha Mashiach (the Messiah) we say:

Thank you for YOUR grace and everything to provide to us every day.

Thank you for keeping us safe.

We know that YOU are always in control. YOU are able to do anything because nothing is impossible for YOU.

Thank you for your Shabbat and that we have a dedicated day to spend in YOUR presence.

We come before you today on this Shabbat. We’re vessels in YOUR hands.

ABA, FATHER, the Almighty Living God of Israel

In the name of Yeshua Ha Mashiach (the Messiah) we ask:

Please show us how to pray effectively and with meaning.

Please forgive us our sins and if our sins way us down, we repent before YOU.

Break down the walls of division and false doctrine. Let YOUR people find Biblical Truth by reading YOUR Word.

Please give the people of Israel a heart of “flesh” (soften their hearts) that they will seek YOU.

Please give our political leaders wisdom that they will make the right decisions.

Please protect us, our families and our countries; the people living in the Land of Israel, the messianic believers in the Land of Israel and all around the world, and Christians against the attacks of satan, sickness, the forces of nature, false doctrine and increased hatred.

All of this, we pray in the name of Yeshua Ha Mashiach, / B’Shem Yeshua Ha Mashiach, King of Israel and Son of the Almighty Living God of Israel.

Amen

I hope you and your family have a peaceful Shabbat.

Please make sure to read my upcoming blogposts for Yom Teruah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot over the next couple of weeks.

Science vs Biblical Truth: Flat Earth or Circle?

Apparently, there is a growing movement of people who believe that the earth is flat. Yes, this isn’t fake news and you can access the article here. In another article, the history behind the possible discovery that the earth is a sphere is given and that Pythagoras (Greek philosopher & mathematician) “provides the earliest arguments for why the Earth is round” in 500 BC.

What does the Word of God say? Well, ADONAI, the Almighty Living God of Israel, revealed to the Prophet Isaiah, between 742 and 689 BC that the earth is a sphere. In Isaiah 40:22 :

22 He who sits above the circle of the earth – for whom its inhabitants appear like grasshoppers – stretches out the heavens like a curtain, spreads them out like a tent to live in.

Biblical truth is beautiful, pure and correct!

Let Yeshua calm the storm in your life

Shabbat Shalom, my Jewish and Gentile Friends!

I’d like to say thank you for following my blog and the likes. It’s all very much appreciated! 😊

For this Shabbat, we read in Matthew / Mattityahu  8: 23-27; (with the same account in Mark 4: 35-41 and Luke 8 22-25 ) that

[Yeshua]  boarded the boat, and his talmidim followed. 24 Then, without warning, a furious storm arose on the lake, so that waves were sweeping over the boat. But yeshua was sleeping. 25 So they came and roused him, saying, “Sir! Help! We’re about to die!” 26 He said to them, “Why are you afraid? So little trust you have!” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and there was a dead calm. 27 The men were astounded. They asked, “What kind of man is this, that even the winds and sea obey him?”

I’m sure you’ve read this account many times before. Have you noticed that Yeshua was sleeping, the people thought that they were about to be killed and then Yeshua responded? Also, have you read this in conjunction with the verses below?

If we read Dani’el 7: 21 -22:

I watched, and that horn made war with the holy ones and was winning, 22 until the Ancient One came, judgment was given in favor of the holy ones of the Most High, and the time came for the holy ones to take over the kingdom.

The same with Zechariah 14: 1- 5, the nations will fight against Yerushalayim ( or Israel) and it will appear that these enemy armies will be winning and then ADONAI will strike back.

Look, a day is coming for Adonai

when your plunder, [Yerushalayim], will be divided

right there within you.

2 “For I will gather all the nations

against Yerushalayim for war.

The city will be taken,

the houses will be rifled,

the women will be raped,

and half the city will go into exile;

but the rest of the people

will not be cut off from the city.”

3 Then Adonai will go out

and fight against those nations,

fighting as on a day of battle.

4 On that day his feet will stand

on the Mount of Olives,

which lies to the east of Yerushalayim;

and the Mount of Olives will be split in half

from east to west, to make a huge valley.

Half of the mountain will move toward the north,

and half of it toward the south.

5 You will flee to the valley in the mountains,

for the valley in the mountains will reach to Atzel.

You will flee, just as you fled before the earthquake

in the days of ‘Uziyah king of Y’hudah.

Then Adonai my God will come

to you with all the holy ones.

Also in the Book of Revelation where there will be suffering of the believers, (the Great Persecution / Tribulation),  but then ADONAI’s will be victorious in the end. Let’s read Revelation 13 1- 10:

“ and I saw a beast come up out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads. On its horns were ten royal crowns and on its heads blasphemous names. 2 The beast which I saw was like a leopard, but with feet like those of a bear and a mouth like the mouth of a lion. To it the dragon gave its power, its throne and great authority. 3 One of the heads of the beast appeared to have received a fatal wound, but its fatal wound was healed, and the whole earth followed after the beast in amazement. 4 They worshipped the dragon, because he had given his authority to the beast; and they worshipped the beast, saying,

“Who is like the beast?

Who can fight against it?”

5 It was given a mouth speaking arrogant blasphemies; and it was given authority to act for forty-two months. 6 So it opened its mouth in blasphemies against God to insult his name and his Sh’khinah, and those living in heaven; 7 it was allowed to make war on God’s holy people and to defeat them; and it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. 8 Everyone living on earth will worship it except those whose names are written in the Book of Life belonging to the Lamb slaughtered before the world was founded. 9 Those who have ears, let them hear!

10 “If anyone is meant for captivity,

into captivity he goes!

If anyone is to be killed with the sword,

with the sword he is to be killed!”[a]

This is when God’s holy people must persevere and trust!

If we look at the above-mentioned verses from the Prophets and the Brit Chadasha (New Testament), there is a definite pattern here: there is an attack or war on believers and it looks like the adversary (ha satan) will win, but then ADONAI acts.

These verses also refer to an attack (or a war) on the the believers as a collective group, but sometimes, a much smaller version of this attack or war from the adversary happens in our lives.   If you are experiencing something in your life now, remember Yeshua’s words in Matthew / Mattityahu 8 verse 26 “[Yeshua] said to them, “Why are you afraid? So little trust you have!”. We should hold on to this truth that has been revealed to us by Yeshua, The King of Israel. The same applies to the coming “storm”, if you know what I mean.  Keep awake and trust in Yeshua!

Remember the formula: praise + pray + prophesy = walking with ELOHIM (ADONAI, Yeshua & Ruach ha Kodesh / Holy Spirit).

I hope you have a peaceful Shabbat and good week!

Hear the call: Sh’ma (Hear Israel)

Hear the call, Israel!

Hear, my words, Israel, you beautiful olive tree consisting of Jew and Gentile believers.

Hear, Israel: we, the remnant come in the spirit and power of Eliyahu, the prophet of old! We praise, pray and prophesy before the return of our King, our Jewish Messiah, our Salvation, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Branch of King David – Yeshua ha Mashiach.

Hear Israel, what do you say to confess your faith when coming face to face with the adversary?

We say…we sing as loud as we can: “Sh’ma, Yisra’el! ADONAI Eloheinu, ADONAI echad [Hear, Isra’el! ADONAI our God, ADONAI is one]; and then we pray, like we’ve never prayed before, like Eliyahu, the prophet, we pray as if we want to bring fire from Heaven,  we sing songs and dance like King David and we blow the Shofar! We are prayer warriors!

Halleluyah!

May Yeshua Mashiach bless you and your family

Sh’ma by yossi azulay
Deuteronomy 6 4-9:
4 “Sh’ma, Yisra’el! ADONAI Eloheinu, ADONAI echad [Hear, Isra’el! ADONAI our God, ADONAI is one];
5 and you are to love ADONAI your God with all your heart, all your being and all your resources.
6 These words, which I am ordering you today, are to be on your heart;
7 and you are to teach them carefully to your children. You are to talk about them when you sit at home, when you are traveling on the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
8 Tie them on your hand as a sign, put them at the front of a headband around your forehead,
9and write them on the door-frames of your house and on your gates.

Revealed: The Name of the Jewish Messiah

Shabbat Shalom, Friends!

In the Tanakh, every name has a meaning and the meaning relates to a specific action or event that happened to this person, for example Moshe was given this name as he was pulled out of the river (Exodus 2:10). At certain times, a person’s given name was either changed to reflect their current status or purpose in life for example Avram was changed to Avraham (Genesis 17:5) or the given Hebrew name was changed to a foreign name based on their place of residency, but later their original Hebrew name was revealed again for example Yosef, son of Israel sold into slavery by Judah and his brothers. During this time, Yosef as a slave suffered and was even imprisoned, but later, he oversaw the affairs of Egypt. Later Yosef revealed his real name to his brother Judah, and all his brothers again (Genesis, 41:45 & Genesis 45).

The same trend applies to ADONAI, when in ancient times, ADONAI gave His Name as EL SHADDAI (אֵל שַׁדָּי) to Avraham, Yitzhak and Yaakov/ Israel. However, in Exodus 6:3 ADONAI revealed His Name to Moshe as YUD HEY VAV HEY (YHVH /יְהוָ֔ה).

So, what does this have to do with the Messiah’s name and identity? Well, throughout the Tanakh, starting with Moshe, the Prophets and King David, they all sang songs and prophesied about the word “ Yeshuah”/ ישׁוּעָה, the hebrew word for salvation:

  • In Exodus 15:2: Moshe sang that “God is my Salvation”

 ב  עָזִּי וְזִמְרָת יָהּ, וַיְהִי-לִי  {ר}  לִישׁוּעָה;

  • In Isaiah 12:2, this prophet prophesied “for see! God is my salvation” הִנֵּה אֵל יְשׁוּעָתִי אֶבְטַח
  • In Psalm 62:2 King David sangs “ADONAI is my light and salvation He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken”.

 ב  אַךְ אֶל-אֱלֹהִים, דּוּמִיָּה נַפְשִׁי;    מִמֶּנּוּ, יְשׁוּעָתִי.

  • In Psalm 118:21 “I am thanking you because you answered me; you
    became my salvation”  אוֹדְךָ, כִּי עֲנִיתָנִי;    וַתְּהִי-לִי, לִישׁוּעָה.

Can you see the name Yeshua / ישׁוּעָ contained these verses? You could say this is all coincidence, however we know that the Messiah, the anointed one will bring about ADONAIS salvation / ישׁוּעָה and read in context with the Branch as explained below, the picture will be clearer that Yeshua is the Jewish Messiah:

Connected to this word Salvation /  ישׁוּעָה, thousands of years ago, Moshe prophesied that a Prophet will raise up just like him and we should place our trust in Him.(Deuteronomy 18:18). The Prophets made a connection ,as revealed by ADONAI, between this coming Prophet and a Branch that “will emerge from the trunk of Yishai”(the root of Yishai), father of King David (Isaiah 11 and Jeremiah 33:15: ADONAI  will cause to spring up for David, a branch of righteousness.) In Zechariah 6:11-12 the Branch / Sprout (Tzemach / צֶמַח) would sprout up and rebuild the temple. This “Branch” will be the future King of Israel, a descendant of David, the Prophet as referred to my Moshe and Messiah of Israel.

Further, what is interesting is that in Zechariah 3:8 the cohen gadol named Y’hoshua (יְהוֹשֻׁעַ) and his colleagues were seen as being the Branch: “these men are a sign that I am going to bring my servant Sprout / Tzemach/ צֶמַח.” Later the name “Y,hoshua” was changed to “Yeshua” יֵשׁ֨וּעַ in Ezra- Nehemiah period (Ezra 3:8). The New Testament period started a couple of hundred years later. This means that the name Y’hoshua / Yeshua is linked to being the Branch / Sprout / Tzemach/ צֶמַח from the tribe of Judah, King of Israel and furthermore, will bring about ADONAI’s Salvation / Yeshuah /  ישׁוּעָה, thus ADONAI is Yeshua – all revealed in the Tanakh.

Now, some thoughts on the translation of the name Yeshua into greek:

We know that the Jewish Messiah was born with the Hebrew name Yeshua /  ישׁוּעָ , in the area of the Tribe of Judah, in the Land of Israel little over 2000 years ago. As the Brit Chadasha was mainly written in Greek, Yeshua was changed to “Jesus”. However, His original Hebrew name is again being revealed to Israel and the nations now. (In the State of Israel, ordinary Israelis don’t necessarily know or use the name “Yeshua”. The reason being that His name appears as a cursed name in the Talmud and the Rabbis have been using this cursed name for last 1500 years to stop Jews from believing in Yeshua as Messiah of Israel).

This change and revelation of the Messiah’s name as Yeshua is similar to that of the story of Yosef (which contains a messianic message even in Orthodox Judaism).

Whether, you want to refer to the Messiah’s name as Yeshua or Jesus is your choice, however consider the following: Firstly, the name “Jesus” also apparently appears in the religion of Islam and in the quran (or at least in theory). In this man-made religion, this “Jesus” character is seen as an islamic prophet and they give all kinds of misquotes from the Brit Chadasha why this islamic prophet isn’t the Son of God. The problem is that groups and congregations, who only believe in “Jesus” but follow replacement doctrines ( i.e rejection of Torah, Shabbat,  the importance of the Land of Israel, the Jews etc) might fall for the deception and lies that this man-made religion of Islam is spreading. These groups and congregations will continue to believe in a “Jesus” figure but now subject to the quran and sharia laws. (Apologies, this isn’t politically correct, it’s just truth.)

Secondly, in 2017, do we refer to Yosef, Son of Israel by his Hebrew name or by his foreign name Tzafnat-Pa’neach? Probably, 99.8% of people use his Hebrew name and the other 0.2% are probably researching the name Tzafnat-Pa’neach, which is why they use this name. So, shouldn’t the same principle apply to Yeshua? Should we use His real name?

Finally, the Name “Yeshua” means salvation and is found thought out the Tanakh and the Brit Chadasha ( if you read the “Complete Jewish Bible” version of the Bible). This Name has prophetic meaning and is full of history as seen in the above-mentioned paragraphs; and the Name connects Jews and Gentiles to the Jewishness of our faith.

IMPORTANT: if you want to refer to the Messiah’s name as Yeshua or Jesus is your choice. However, if interested, next time you pray, why not end your prayer “in the Name of Yeshua the Messiah / Yeshua Mashiach. In Hebrew, you would say “b’ Shem Yeshua Mashiach”.

I hope you have a peaceful Shabbat. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, protection of believers and Israel!

This Shabbat

Yeshua told him: “Away with you, Satan!”

Shabbat Shalom, friends!

In Mattiyahu / Matthew 4:1 to 10 (CJB), we read how Yeshua refered to the Torah (D’varim / Deuteronomy 6 and 8) and the K’tuvim (Writings) (Tehillim / Psalm 91) to defeat temptation from satan in the wilderness. When I read Matthew 4, two aspects stand out. Firstly, Yeshua fasted for forty days and nights. He must have been really hungry and quite weak. It is in these moments of perceived weakness that the power of ADONAI is brought to perfection (2 Corinthians 12:9). Sha’ul also summed this up by saying: “I am well pleased with weaknesses…for it when I am weak that I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10).

Secondly, satan knows the Word of God (The Bible) or at least some of the passages. I wonder if he knows the conclusion(?): he will try to make war with the “holy ones” (Dani’el 7), however the Messiah will return to defeat him! HALLELUYAH!

If you feel attacked by the adversary; if you feel weak; it’s not a pleasant experience, but remember the following:  “See, the Word of God is alive! It is at work and is sharper than any double-edged sword” (Messianic Jews / Hebrews 4-12) and “[n]o temptation has seized you beyond what people normally experience, and God can be trusted not to allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear” ( 1 Corinthians 10:13).

Thus, hazak, hazak, v’nit’chazek! (be strong, be strong, and let us be strengthened!) and follow Yeshua’s example by chasing the adversary away!

Have a good and peaceful Shabbat!

With so much bad news in the U.S., Israel, Russia and around the world these days, I thought it might be good to kick off 2017 with some very good news.

Here, then, is an update to a column I published on September 22, 2015 about “a big, untold story” that “the media isn’t reporting” but is very much “worth examining.”

“Millions of Jews have begun a quest to find the Messiah,” I wrote at the time, based on conversations with key Messianic Jewish ministry leaders in the U.S. and Israel. “For reasons I cannot fully explain, Jews are suddenly searching for answers to the deepest and most important questions concerning life and death and God and atonement and eternity, in…
