Why the name Yeshua?

What is sin? Sin is a violation of Torah (God of Israel’s instructions found in the Bible).

We are all sinners and to atone for our sins, people usually turn to some form of religion to achieve this. You might have grown up with a specific religion or started following a religion as a teenager or adult. Any form of man made religion falls short of truly achieving this purpose. It’s because it is “man made”. It’s prone to human problems such as corruption, greed, even sexual abuse or exploitation. There has also been a lot of misinformation over the past 2000 years about how to receive salvation created by these institutions for example you have to pay to have your sins removed. This has caused people to fall away from what they consider a supernatural, superior being or “god” because they have developed a deep mistrust in their religious upbringing or religious institutions .

Fortunately,  we were not meant to follow man made religious rules, instead “we will walk in the name of ADONAI our God forever and ever”(Micah 4:5). This means it is a deeply personal, private experience and relationship between you and a supernatural, superior being.

This Supernatural, Superior Being is the Creator of everything: the Almighty Living God of Israel (ADONAI YHVH). HE has a Son. You have heard the name “Jesus” before, right? But have you heard the name “Yeshua” before?

Why the name “Yeshua”? What is the meaning of the name “Yeshua”? Qual o significado da palavra “Yeshua”? Significado de la palabra “Yeshua”?

Yeshua is the Hebrew name for “Jesus”. This was the original name He was given when He born in the Land of Israel (Tribe area of Judah) 2000+ years ago. Yeshua was born into a Jewish family in Bethlehem (as His family originated from the Israelite tribe of Judah and a direct descendant of King David), he kept the Torah (God’s instructions), kept the sabbath day, and the biblical feast days / appointed times.

This name also follows biblical tradition that every name in the Bible has a meaning and the meaning relates to a specific action or event that happened to this person or their purpose in life, for example Moses was given this name as he was pulled out of the river (Exodus 2:10).

This name “Yeshua” is the shortened version of Yehoshua which means Salvation or יְשׁוּעָה / yeshuah (in Hebrew). This is His purpose for which He was sent by the Almighty Living God of Israel to make atonement for our sins. The name Yeshua is found numerous times ( approximately 77 times) throughout the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible – Tanakh). When using the name Yeshua, it breaks down the ideas we have associated with “Jesus,” and opens a door to seeing the Son of God in a new light. Using the name Yeshua connects “Jesus” and the new testament with the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible – Tanakh); and it shows the Jewishness of the New Testament / New Covenant.

As mentioned. We’re all sinners and Yeshua’s purpose is to allow us sinners to receive salvation from the Almighty Living God of Israel, by repenting from our sins and receiving the everlasting life after death. Yeshua is haderech (הדרך) i.e the only way to connect with the God of Israel and receive salvation. Yeshua is the Truth, the Way and the Life (Yochanan / John 14:6). Yeshua is the Ancient One with the name:  Pele-Yo’etz El Gibbor Avi-‘Ad Sar-Shalom [Wonder of a Counselor, Mighty God, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace] (Yeshayahu / Isaiah 9:6)

Following and believing in Yeshua means no man made religion involved. It’s a intensely personal journey and salvation is free.
